Schools of Hope in Madison

Become a Schools of Hope Tutor in Madison elementary schools!

If you are interested in volunteering for the 2024-2025 school year, there are several steps you need to take to become a fully approved tutor with our program and Madison Metropolitan School District (MMSD):

1. Complete our application 
2. Register to become a volunteer with MMSD (this includes a background check)
3. Complete online required MMSD trainings: 
   1. General Training:
      • Building & Student Safety (15 minutes)
      • Volunteer Onboarding (60 minutes)
   2. Literacy Tutor Training:
      • K-12 Literacy Tutoring: A Crash Course in the Science of Reading (new in 2023)
      • Elementary Literacy Tutoring and Literacy Kits (created by Schools of Hope staff in 2024)

Note: each training only needs to be completed once, but all of them are required for Schools of Hope tutors.
