Tutoring in High Schools

Want to tutor in a high school?

The United Way’s Achievement Connections program is seeking dedicated and caring individuals to commit to two hours per week tutoring high school students in Algebra 1 and Geometry with a goal of increasing graduation rates and academic achievement. Tutor students one-on-one at high schools within the Madison Metropolitan School District and the Middleton-Cross Plains Area School District. West, Memorial, and Middleton high schools participate in this program. Tutoring hours vary by school.

Never tutored before? That’s OK! Volunteer tutors will go through an on-site training course. Volunteers should be comfortable with math but do not need to be “experts” – materials and support will be provided!

Preferred qualification for tutors:

  • Possess strong content knowledge in algebra or geometry
  • Strong desire to teach or mentor
  • Commit to two hours or more per week of tutoring for one semester or longer
  • Attend tutor training sessions
